Crafted with just three ingredients, my homemade coffee syrup is a quick and easy way to boost the coffee flavoring in all manner of sweet and savory recipes.
With its rich, sweet flavor and effortless preparation, you’ll find yourself reaching for this easy coffee flavored syrup recipe time and time again. So let’s say goodbye to store-bought syrups laden with artificial flavors and preservatives, and say hello to my natural, homemade alternative that you can whip up in no time.
Why You’ll Love My Coffee Syrup Recipe
Coffee syrup is one of those products you don’t necessarily use every day, but is so nice to have on hand when you do!
Not only is this coffee flavored syrup perfect for your hot and iced coffee drinks, but it also has a myriad of other uses. Drizzle it over pancakes or waffles for a sweet breakfast treat, add it to your BBQ marinade for an unexpected twist, or use it as a topping for ice cream and desserts.
The possibilities are endless, making this homemade syrup a must-have in your kitchen.
There are plenty of commercial coffee syrups on the market, but they often contain a lot of corn syrup and very little coffee. In fact many are made with just coffee extract, and not real coffee. So they lack a true coffee taste (and caffeine) and are super high in sugar.
Which is why you have to try my homemade coffee syrup recipe.
Made with real coffee, this concentrated coffee syrup is great to have on the ready to spruce up simple desserts, drinks and cakes, even steak and lamb!
Plus, my recipe for coffee syrup is super easy to prepare and can be stored in the fridge for up to a month.
If you love coffee syrup, try it in this Nutella frappe, in my breakfast smoothie or drizzled over a slice of walnut and date loaf.
Coffee Flavored Syrup Ingredients
You’ll need just 3 ingredients to make my simple coffee syrup. The specific quantities and steps are listed in the recipe card below, so here I just want to touch on each of the ingredients that make this syrup so good! You will need:
- Strong brewed coffee
- White sugar – superfine sugar is best as it quickly dissolves.
- Corn syrup – to help thicken the syrup.
Strong Coffee
The secret to a rich and sweet coffee flavored syrup is a strong batch of good quality coffee. It needs to be strong (stronger than you would normally drink) in order for the coffee flavor to carry through the syrup.
I recommend using an espresso machine or moka pot with good quality dark roast coffee beans.
If using a french press or drip coffee maker, increase the coffee to water ratio to brew a stronger than normal brew.
You could even use a good quality dark roast instant coffee if that is all you have at home.

How To Make Coffee Syrup At Home
So let’s take a look at how to make coffee syrup at home. For the full recipe and ingredient list, scroll down to the printable recipe card.
Step 1: Brew your coffee. Brew a strong batch of coffee and pour the required amount into a heavy medium size saucepan.
Step 2: Boil. Add the sugar and corn syrup to the pan with the coffee, stir to combine and bring to the boil over a medium-high heat.
Step 3: Simmer. Once the mixture comes to the boil, reduce the heat to medium and simmer gently for 15 minutes. Stir occasionally and ensure the heat is not too high. The syrup will become thick and syrupy.
Step 4: Cool and store. Once the syrup has thickened, turn the heat off and leave to cool in the pan for around 20 minutes before carefully transferring to a jar or bottle.
I find it easiest to transfer the thick coffee syrup from the saucepan into a small jug and then use a funnel to pour the coffee into a bottle.
Close the lid and place the coffee flavoring syrup in the fridge and cool for 24 hours before using.
Recipe Tips For Success
For the best tasting coffee syrups, use a strong brewed coffee for your base.
Also ensure you gently simmer the mixture down on a medium heat. If the heat is too high it may burn.
How To Store Coffee Syrup
Store your coffee flavoring in a sealed bottle or jar in the fridge for up to 4 weeks.
It may thicken when cold, so shake before use.

Coffee Flavored Syrup FAQs
Does Coffee Syrup Have Caffeine In It?
Although many store bought coffee syrups have only traces of caffeine, my DIY coffee syrup recipe contains caffeine as it is made with real coffee beans. The only exception would be if you make coffee flavored syrup with decaf coffee.

Coffee flavored syrup is perfect for making coffee milkshakes, iced coffee and coffee cocktails. It is also great for serving on pancakes, as an ice cream topping, drizzled over a simple pound cake and using in coffee dessert recipes.
