Why You’ll Love This Mocha Iced Coffee Recipe
Convenient and budget friendly: Making a mocha iced coffee at home means you can enjoy a café-quality drink without the coffee shop prices or wait times.
Customizable: When you make your own iced mocha, you can adjust the sweetness, chocolate, and coffee strength to suit your personal preferences.
Healthier ingredients: Homemade mocha coffee gives you complete control over the ingredients, so you can use quality coffee, dairy or non-dairy milk, and even choose sugar-free or dark chocolate options.
Iced Mocha Ingredients
My homemade mocha coffee is super simple to make with just a handful of ingredients. The full quantities and instructions are in the recipe card below, so let’s just take a quick look at the ingredients here.
Coffee: For this recipe I am using brewed coffee. You will need to brew a strong batch and chill it before using. See below for coffee substitutions.
Milk: I prefer to use whole milk, but honestly use your preferred milk for this recipe. Low fat, or dairy-free milks work just as well.
Chocolate syrup: Use a good quality chocolate syrup for the best tasting iced mocha drink.
Vanilla extract: A good vanilla extract gives the coffee an extra depth of flavor that I love – I almost always add a little vanilla to my iced coffee drinks.
Whipped cream: Completely optional topping for a decadent twist on your iced coffee.
Substitutions
Coffee: There are many different coffee makers and brewing methods, and pretty much all of them work for an iced coffee recipe. Drip, french press, moka pot, cold brew or espresso – they will all taste great, so choose your favorite and go with it.
Vanilla extract: Vanilla essence is a good substitute for vanilla extract. You can leave it out too if you don’t have any – the drink will still be good without it!
Chocolate syrup: Syrup works best but you could also use chocolate sauce instead of syrup.
Equipment Needed
You will need a coffee maker to make this coffee recipe. Like I mentioned above the type of coffee maker really doesn’t matter – just ensure it is a nice strong batch.

How To Make A Mocha Iced Coffee At Home
Here’s a quick overview of how to make a mocha iced coffee at home. For the full recipe and ingredient list, scroll down to the printable recipe card.
Step 1: Brew your coffee and set aside to cool before using. Drizzle half of the chocolate syrup around the inside of your glass, then add ice to fill half way.
Pour the cold coffee into the glass.
Step 2: Pour the cold milk into the glass, then the remaining chocolate syrup and vanilla extract. Stir well to combine.
Step 3: Serve as is or add some whipped cream and extra chocolate syrup (optional) on top for a decadent treat! Enjoy immediately.
Recipe Variations
Hot mocha: Make this mocha recipe hot for cozy winter drinking. Simply ditch the ice and use hot coffee and warmed milk for a hot mocha drink.
Peppermint mocha: Add 1/2 a teaspoon of peppermint extract for a festive iced peppermint mocha drink.
Extra syrup flavors: Try mixing and matching your syrups for unique iced coffee combinations. Caramel and chocolate is a popular option, or try a white chocolate syrup for a white mocha latte.
Recipe Tips For Success
- Make sure all ingredients are cold. Hot coffee will quickly melt your ice cubes and dilute the coffee flavor.
- Mix well. Ensure you mix everything well to ensure the flavors are well combined in the glass.
How To Store A Mocha Coffee Drink
This coffee drink is best enjoyed right away, but if you want to make your mocha ahead of time, just omit the ice and add it right before drinking.
To save any leftover iced mocha drink, strain the drink into a glass or jar and dispose of the ice. Seal the lid and add some more ice when you drink it next time.
What To Eat With An Iced Mocha
For breakfast, try my mocha muffins. For a quick snack this drink would pair perfectly with a few of my easy coffee chocolate chip cookies or a slice of my coffee cheesecake loaf.
