  • Pretzel Snaps: The square snaps are a great shape for these fun easter treats, but you can also use classic pretzel twists. Just ensure the width of the pretzel is wider than the candy melts – mini pretzels are a bit too small.
  • White Candy Melts: White melts help the pastel M&Ms color pop, but feel free to use any color you like! Candy melts are better than chocolate for holding their shape when heated.
  • Spring M&Ms: Also called Pastel M&Ms or Easter M&Ms, they have a selection of bright Spring colors that are perfect for these Easter sweet treats. You may need to buy a couple packets to match enough face and ears combinations depending on how many pretzel bites you are making.

How To Make Easter Bunny Pretzel Bites

Here’s a quick overview of how to make easter bunny pretzels. For the full recipe details, including ingredients and measurements needed, scroll down to the printable recipe card below.

You will need a large baking sheet, parchment paper, and an edible food pen (optional) to get started.

Prepare the M&Ms: Sort the M&Ms into colors. You will need two M&Ms of the same color per pretzel – one for the face and one for the ears.

If adding bunny faces, draw them on the whole M&Ms and let the ink dry. Use a sharp knife to cut the M&Ms in half for the ears.

Bake The Pretzels: Place the pretzels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Add a single white candy melt to the top of each pretzel. Bake for 3-4 minutes, or until the candy melts are soft, but still holding their shape.

Remove from the oven and get ready to decorate.

Decorate The Pretzels: Work quickly while the candy melts are still soft to add your bunny faces. Press a whole M&M into the centre of the pretzel, then add the two matching M&M halves for ears.

With or without faces they are completely adorable!

Leave on the baking sheet to set completely before serving or storing.

Recipe Tips For Success

Prep your M&M bunny ears and faces in advance: Since the candy melts set quickly once removed from the oven, have your M&Ms sorted, cut and decorated beforehand. This allows you to work fast and press the ears into the softened candy while it’s still soft.

Patience is key for setting: Don’t be tempted to move or plate the treats too early. Giving them the full 15 minutes to set completely ensures the M&M faces and ears are securely anchored to the pretzel, preventing any “bunny casualties” during serving.

How To Store Chocolate Pretzels

Store decorated easter bunny pretzel treats in an airtight container for up to a week. Do not store in the fridge as the pretzels will become soft.

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 250℉ (120℃).
  • Prepare the M&Ms: To create the bunny on top of each pretzel, you'll need two M&Ms of the same color – one whole M&M for the face and two halves for the ears. Use a sharp knife to cut 20 M&Ms in half. If adding faces, draw them on the whole M&Ms and let the ink dry for a few minutes before handling.
  • Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Arrange the pretzel snaps in a single layer on the baking sheet.
  • Bake the Pretzels: Place one white candy melt on each pretzel. Bake for 3-4 minutes, just until the candy melts are soft but still holding their shape.
  • Decorate: Remove the tray from the oven and work quickly to press a whole M&M onto the centre of each pretzel. Then add two M&M halves of the same color to form the ears. Gently press into the softened candy.
  • Leave the pretzel treats on the tray to set completely (about 15 minutes) before serving or handling.

Notes

  1. The low oven temperature will soften the candy melts just enough to decorate without melting them.
  2. Sort the M&Ms into matching colors and shapes before melting the candy for easy assembling.
  3. Work quickly to add the M&Ms once you remove the pretzels from the oven as the candy melts will firm up again.
  4. To make a larger quantity of bunnies, work in batches so you have enough time to add the face and ears to each pretzel bite.
  5. I recommend buying a couple small bags of Spring M&Ms or one large bag so you can find enough of the same color to make matching face and ears.
